Man shuns post of MLA to teach
It has always been the cherished dream of political workers to become MLAs, but Mr Sukhram Koli is a man with a difference. Elected from Rajasthan’s Baseri constituency, Mr Koli is ready to give up his MLA post as he participated in a school teacher competition organised by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) on Sunday along with 33,000 aspirants.
“I am serious about my new destination. There is no rationale in remaining as an MLA when we are not able to serve the people,” Mr Koli said.
His constituency falls under dacoit-infested Dholpur district. “If we cannot do anything for our constituency in the given circumstances, it will be better to educate children,” Mr Koli said.
After doing his post-graduation and M.Phil, Mr Koli also got a B.Ed degree. “When I got elected, I dreamt of development of my constituency but here I found that no one listens to us,” said a dejected dalit BJP MLA.
For him, India’s fist President Rajendra Prasad, Zakir Hussain and Lal Bahadur Shashtri were ideal leaders. In the present era, he sees former Prime Minister Atal Behar Vajpayee as an ideal leader.
“If I am selected as a school lecturer, I will get Rs 22,000 as salary and that is enough for me to feed my family,” Mr Koli said.
