Man tries to hurl shoe at Dwivedi
High drama unfolded at the AICC headquarters during the party’s regular evening briefing when a person posing as a journalist tried to attack Congress general secretary and chairman of media department Janardhan Dwivedi with a shoe. The attacker was apparently miffed over the treatment meted out to Ramdev. But in a swift turn of events
journalists and party workers overpowered the person, who was carrying identification as Sunil Kumar of Nav-Sanchar Patrika from Rajasthan, and beat him up.
Later the attacker was handed over to the cops at Tughlak Road police station.
According to police sources the action against the attacker can be taken under 65 DP Act.
The attacker was initially sitting in the third row of the right flank of the briefing platform, from where Mr Dwivedi was adding the media over the issues relating to Ramdev’s agitation. Sometime mid-way he asked scribes sitting in front line to give him way, as he gave impression that he wanted to go out.
But after coming out of the row he was sitting, he stood in front of the first row and asked a question to which Mr Dwivedi adequately replied.
The attacker, who was a middle-aged man, wearing a striped t-shirt, was then suddenly heard telling Mr Dwivedi “you cannot stop us from asking questions”.
The man was immediately caught by the AICC staffer and some journalists and was removed from the briefing hall while being beaten up.
After the man was taken out of the briefing hall, Mr Dwivedi, while settling himself once again on the dais, described the incident as “pre-planned” attack, as he was to speak against Ramdev and his agitation. He also accused that the attack was conducted at the behest of Sangh Parivar.
“Whatever, I said has been proved by this one man. Had this (attack) not been orchestrated, the person would not have asked favourable questions so that there were no doubts,” Mr Dwivedi said.
Reacting to the development, AICC spokesperson Manish Tewari said, “It is obvious that there is an element of frustration and desperation among the Sangh Parivar. But I can’t confirm whether the man belongs to RSS or BJP.”
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh alleged the attacker was an RSS member. “The man seems to be an RSS activist,” he said.
When asked as to how he can confirm that the attacker was an RSS activist, Mr Singh claimed his ID card was found in his bag. He also informed that he has spoken to the Delhi police commissioner and asked him to find the antecedents of the person, including the organisation he belongs to. “I have asked the police commissioner to thoroughly question the attacker,” he added.
Meanwhile, deploring the attempted shoe attack on Mr Dwivedi the BJP said this was “not the right approach” to vent anger at the government. “We don’t approve it, it is condemnable. Whatever be the anger, whatever be the pain and this government and
Congress party have given a lot of pain to the people of this country, but this is not the right approach,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
