Man tries to kill cancer-stricken wife
A construction worker has been arrested for allegedly attempting to murder his wife at the Coimbatore medical college and hospital (CMCH) where she has been admitted for cancer of the womb.
The police have also arrested an employee of the hospital for his alleged involvement in the attempted murder.
According to police sources, Munnusamy, 42, a daily wage construction worker of Kakkan Nagar, Singanallur, had admitted his wife for cancer in two other private hospitals in the city before he brought her to CMCH 18 days back, in an advanced stage of cancer, for treatment.
He had also accompanied her many times to the hospital as an outpatient when he got acquainted with CT scan generator operator Rajan now accused of conniving with Munnusamy to kill his wife.
As per the complaint filed by the woman, the two had entered her room in the wee hours of Tuesday and tried to inject something into the intravenous line and kill her. As the woman began to scream in panic, a group of people caught the two and bashed them up before handing them over to the police. Though the woman is in intensive care unit now, her condition is stable, the police sources added.
Munnusamy said that he and his ‘accomplice’ Rajan were drunk and do not remember what had happened. He had taken care of his cancer patient wife for the past two years and had no intention of killing her and going to jail would leave his two children in the lurch.
