Maoist killed in C’garh encounter
One Maoist was on Sunday killed in an encounter with the Border Security Force (BSF) at Pamulbaya in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Bijapur district, the police said.
A senior district police officer said a group of armed Naxals opened fire targeting the BSF camp at Pamulbaya in the morning. The security personnel in the camp retaliated, leading to a fierce gunbattle between them.
The encounter lasted about two hours. The Naxals later fled into the jungle.
The BSF troopers later recovered body of a Maoist in uniform at the encounter site.
The police officer said Naxals also opened fire on other BSF camps at Cherpal, Gangalur, Reddy and Kendulnar in the district during the day.
But the forces in the camps successfully repulsed the attacks.
In another incident, security personnel recovered substantial quantities of arms and ammunitions following an encounter with Naxals at Mohala village in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district adjoining Naxal-infested Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra early on Sunday morning.
Rajnandgaon district superintendent of police (SP) Sanjiv Shukla said acting on a tip-off on the presence of Naxals on a hillock at Mohala, a joint team comprising personnel of district force (DF) of Chhattisgarh police and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) raided the Maoist camp. However, the ultras managed to escape.
