Maoists abduct 2 for extortion
As a punitive measure, the Maoists on Monday abducted two villagers in Bihar’s Jamui district who had been allegedly extorting money and spreading fear in the area in the name and guise of the rebels without having any link with the left-wing outfits.
Nuneshwar Yadav and Sanjay Yadav were forcibly picked up from their homes in Gothiamoliatand village in the Maoist-affected southern district of Jamui in the morning and taken to an undisclosed location, said police sources. “These two men were said to be in the hit list of the Maoists for some time after reports of their illegal activities like threatening people and demanding protection money surfaced,” said a source in the district police.
There was no trace of the two men till late in the evening though the police claimed to be conducting raids for their safe recovery. In previous incidents of this kind, the Maoists have punished people accused of impersonating them to collect money by brutally thrashing them publicly.
