Maoists changing tack in Assam?
The interrogation of private school principal Pallab Barbora by the National Investigation Agency has also corroborated the fact that the central committee of Maoists had instructed its counterpart in Assam to intensify their presence and involvement into the local mass movements instead of armed operations.
Asserting that the focus of Maoists on Northeast was also aimed at procuring arms and rope in top separatist leaders to provide trainers for its central unit, security sources said that investigation has revealed that NSCN (I-M) and PLA supplied trained trainers to Maoists to train their cadres in the Maoist-infested areas of Jharkhand, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Bihar.
Pointing out that the Maoist movement received major setback following the arrest of their important leaders in the state, security sources however said that Maoists are now focusing on consolidating their cadre strength in Assam and other Northeastern states.
Security sources said that Maoists rebels have also planned out several seminars and debates in Barrak Valley to propagate their theory of exploitation by the state.
Clarifying that Aditya Bora managed to jump bail even after his arrest in Orissa, security source regretted that he managed to get bail only because of ignorance of the state police, which under-estimated his involvement in the Maoist activities.
Indicating that security forces were zeroing in on some of their hardcore leaders in the state, security sources said that the Upper Assam Leading Committee has strengthened its footholds in Upper Assam.
The Maoists central committee was in constant touch with its branches in Northeast while sources also said that many of its senior leaders are operating from Arunachal Pradesh.
