Maoists gun down youth, loot cash in Orissa
The Maoists gunned down a youth suspecting him to be a police informer and looted Rs 40,000 from a home guard's residence in Orissa's Mayurbhanj district, police said on Thursday. About 50 armed rebels stormed into Handibhanga village under Suliapada area, about 40 km from here late on Wednesday night. They attacked the house of Sukanta Murmu, 22 and shot him dead, the sources said. Though the exact reason behind the killing was yet to be ascertained, it appears that the Maoists suspected him to be an informer of the police, they said. The Maoists also attacked the house of home guard Ramachandra Marandi, who was away, assaulted his elderly parents and looted Rs 40,000 in cash. Raising slogans against the government and security forces, the rebels fled to nearby forest. Security personnel have started combing operation in the area.
