Martyr’s Week in Bastar area
Normal life was paralysed in many parts of Maoist-affected districts of Bastar region in Chhattisgarh even as observance of “Janpituri” (Martyrs’ Week) by the Red rebels entered third day on Monday.
Normal life in the districts of Dantewada, Bijapur and Narayanpur — the worst affected by the Maoist insurgency in Bastar division — virtually came to a standstill with weekly markets remaining closed and bus and train services coming to a grinding halt.

Sharad Pawar to undergo op
Mumbai : NCP chief Sharad Pawar would undergo a procedure to remove mouth infection at a city-based private hospital this week.
“Pawar would be admitted to the Breach Candy hospital here and would undergo the procedure to remove infective granuloma in his mouth on June 9,” said director of Prince Aly Khan Hospital Sultan Pradhan, who has been treating Mr Pawar for last few years.
“The test conducted for oral cancer showed a negative report. But there is an infection in the mouth, which will be removed,” Mr Pradhan said. —PTI

Tigress gives birth to 3 cubs
Chennai : A white tigress has given birth to three cubs at the Vandalur zoological park here. A white tiger and the tigress were brought to the zoo in 2006 from New Delhi under an animal exchange programme.
The cubs, which were born on Sunday morning, are healthy, officials said.
Last year, the tigress had given birth to two cubs.
The total white tiger population in the zoo has gone up to seven, they said.
