Marxists put up a brave face
The CPI(M) on Wednesday accepted its defeat by the Trinamul in the West Bengal civic polls, but tried to put up a brave front by maintaining that the reverses faced by the party in the Lok Sabha polls have been “arrested” if not reversed. The reasons behind the CPI(M) led Left Front government’s defeat at the hands of the Trinamul are
expected to be discussed threadbare when the party politburo meets soon. West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is expected to participate in the meeting and throw light on the party’s poor performance during the politburo meet which is likely to be scheduled over the weekend, party sources said. “We accept the people’s verdict in the civic elections. But we would also point out that our vote percentage has shown marginal improvement of over four per cent than the last Lok Sabha elections,” CPI(M) politburo member Sitaram Yechury said.
“It shows that the trend seen in the Lok Sabha elections has been arrested but not reversed,” Mr Yechury said.
