Maya birthday will be marked Prerna Diwas
UP chief minister Mayawati’s 55th birthday on January 15 will now be celebrated as Prerna Diwas.
The idea is to present Ms Mayawati as a role model for dalits, particularly women.
“Ms Mayawati’s contribution to dalit upliftment is unparalleled. She has built parks and memorials to commemorate the memory of dalit icons and has realised late Kanshi Ram’s dream of absolute power for dalits. She is a source of inspiration for all dalits, particularly women who see in her, a fulfilment of their own dreams and aspirations,” said a senior party functionary.
The main function for the chief minister’s birthday, this year, will be held at the newly built auditorium at the Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University. The chief minister, on her birthday, will inaugurate the auditorium that has been constructed at a cost of `60 crores and has a seating capacity of 3,000 persons, apart from state-of-art technology for audio and video facilities.
The auditorium is one of the biggest in the country.
It is here that the chief minister will announce a number of welfare schemes for the people of UP and will also inaugurate several projects that have been completed.
Meanwhile, with exactly a week left for the chief minister’s birthday, the state capital is dotted with hoardings wishing her on a birthday. Senior party leaders, wannabe politicians, ticket aspirants and local businessmen have put up hoardings by dozens. Welcome arches are being put up at al vantage points.
The entire city is being plastered with blue banners and buntings and all the parks and memorials are being illuminated with blue lights to celebrate the occasion.
