Maya set to celebrate longest tenure as CM

On May 13, when UP chief minister Mayawati completes four years in office — her longest-ever tenure in the post — she will announce projects worth over `1,000 crores for various sections of people in the state.

“Some new schemes are in the offing while some old ones are being revamped for better impact. The idea is to cater to all sections of society in keeping with the state government’s concept of Sarvjan Sukhaye,” said a senior official in the chief minister’s secretariat.
The fourth anniversary of the Mayawati government promises to be a lavish affair and, significant too, since elections in the state are barely a few months away.
The chief minister will use the occasion to dole out sops to all those sections of society that have not been catered to in the past four years.
The most important event of the celebrations, however, will be the release of a booklet that will later serve as a Bible of sorts for Bahujan Samaj Party candidates and leaders during the assembly campaign.
“The booklet is currently under publication. It chronicles all the achievements of the Mayawati governments that have been put under various categories. There is a section devoted to the tasks accomplished by this government for dalits and another one that is for all castes. The booklet also carries the allegations that have been levelled against our government and the correct responses to each one of them. In short, the book completely equips our candidates and supporters to face the people in the next election,” said a senior BSP leader.
The booklet, according to party sources, is to be widely distributed in the state so that BSP candidates can begin by countering the misinformation campaign being orchestrated by Opposition parties.
Ms Mayawati has already asked her party leaders and cadres to neutralise the opposition campaign which could create wrong perceptions in the minds of voters and even mislead them to an extent.
Meanwhile, all the district units of the BSP are gearing up to celebrate the fourth anniversary of their government by putting up cutouts and hoardings congratulations the chief minister.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
