Maya to tour TN as part of BSP campaign
Bahujan Samaj Party leader and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati will undertake a three day tour of Tamil Nadu as part of her party’s election campaign for the April 13 Assembly polls, a senior party leader said.
However, the dates for her visit have not yet been decided, BSP’s national general secretary Suresh Mane said. Releasing the first candidates’ list for 51 of the 234 seats, he said the party aimed to secure a 10 per cent vote share and claimed BSP would be an “alternative” to DMK and AIADMK in the state.
“With DMDK, which was touted as an alternative to these two parties joining the AIADMK-led alliance, we can be the alternative,” he said, adding that BSP would not be part of any of the two fronts and would go it alone in all 234 seats.
Mr Mane said his party, banking on the Dalit card, had fielded 164 candidates in 2006 elections and secured two per cent votes and said they were confident of a 10 per cent vote share this time as they had fielded 234 candidates
“The DMK-Congress combine has to pay for the 2G spectrum allocation scam. DMK has lost the legacy of (its founder) C.N. Annadurai and rational leader E.V. Ramasamy Periar,” he said while talking to reporters. — PTI
