Maya to use term ‘terrorists’ for U.P. elements

BSP president Mayawati has demanded Central intervention in Uttar Pradesh and the imposition of President’s Rule.
Addressing a press conference here Tuesday, Ms Mayawati said the law and order situation in UP had broken down completely and “jungle raj” prevailed. “It is for the governor and the Central government to see the prevailing situation here. The governor must exercise his constitutional responsibilities and send a report to the Centre so that President’s Rule can be imposed here,” she said.
“One of the ministers has said that 45 per cent of the people are stupid. The attitude towards women is evident from the statement made by another minister. Yet another minister said it was fine it the officers did a bit of robbery but they should not indulge in dacoity. This is the attitude and working of the SP government,” she said.
Ms Mayawati alleged that the Samajwadi leadership was encouraging such elements. She said that since the SP did not like it, she would not use the term “goonda” for such elements, but would call them “terrorists and uncontrolled elements” henceforth.

sensex at 7-mth high on rate cut hope
AGE CORRESPONDENT
MUMBAI, APR 16

The Sensex surged to a seven-month high riding on hopes that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would slash interest rates in its monetary policy meeting in May after headline inflation for March dropped to a three-year low. The sharp slump in the prices of gold and silver also buoyed investor sentiment as it is expected to increase the flow of funds into the cash-starved equity markets from the bullion markets besides helping India narrow its high current account deficit. The impressive rally on Tuesday was led by rate-sensitive banking and auto stocks. The Sensex climbed 387.13 points, or 2.11 per cent, to end the day at 18,744.93, while the Nifty surged 120.55 points.
