Mayawati denies increase in dalit atrocities
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has refuted the charges of Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes regarding diversion of special component plan fund and increase in cases of crime against dalits.
"The statement given by chairman of SC/ST commission is false and baseless as not a single penny of special component plan has been diverted by the state government," an official spokesman said here.
P L Punia had yesterday alleged that the Mayawati-led state government diverted the plan fund to construct medical colleges and crime against dalits was on the rise in UP.
Medical colleges in Jalaun and Kannauj were constructed as per the guidelines of the Centre, the spokesman said.
"In these colleges 70 per cent seats have been reserved for SC/ST candidates. Only 70 per cent of the plan fund was utilised in these colleges," he said.
He said the special component plan fund was being utilised only for specific schemes for the welfare of SC/ST.
"As far as crime against dalits is concerned the government is sensitive on the issue and there has been 25 per cent decline in such incidents," the spokesman said.
