Mayhem rules at B.Ed exam, BU turns blind eye
Bengaluru: The week-long Bangalore University (BU) B.Ed examinations got off to a chaotic start on Monday monrning.
In many colleges, BU examination section officials forced college staff to allow students to write the examination without verifying the admission registers. Over 600 students sat in a single center.
Hall tickets were issued only on Monday, students’ details were not cross checked with admission registers, rampant cheating was overlooked and potential impersonation cases were ignored.
BU V.C Prof. B.C. Thimmegowda has assured a foolproof examination from next year. He also said that the fate of the 47 blacklisted B.Ed colleges will be decided by a high-level committee comprising two retired VCs.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the chief invigilator at an exam center, said, “Details provided in the hall tickets did not tally with those in the admission register.
University officials, who visited the colleges under the guise of monitoring the exam process, forced us to allow the students into the hall. VC Prof. B. Thimmegowda, advised us not to allow such students from Tuesday onward,” said an officer.
Karan Kumar, head, BU B.Ed task force and member of the University Academic Council urged the state government to declare the examination null and void. “Hall tickets were generated before students had paid the examination fee. The VC himself directed exam center authorities to allow candidates without verifying the admission register, he alleged.”
