MEA seeks PoK-Chinese report
The government was taking all measures necessary to ensure the safety and security of its people as well as territorial integrity of the nation, external affairs minister S.M. Krishna said after reports of a Chinese troop presence in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
When asked for her views on the matter, foreign secretary Nirupama Rao said she had asked for a “detailed report” from the ministry of defence but she maintained that such incidents of “transgressions” were reported from time to time. “There are transgressions from time to time which occur when Chinese troops come over to our side of the LAC (Line of Actual Control) and occasionally we are told that we are crossing into their side. This is going on for some time,” Ms Rao noted. There were differences in perception about the LAC between India and China in the border areas and these differences had to be dealt with peacefully, she said.
Mr Krishna, meanwhile, responding to queries about reports of the presence of foreign troops in PoK, said, “We have seen media reports on the subject. Government closely and regularly monitors all developments along our borders, which can have a bearing on our security. We continuously review and take measures necessary to ensure the safety and security of our people as well as territorial integrity of the nation.”
