Medhekar appointed NSG chief
Special director-general of Border Security Force (BSF) R.K. Medhekar was on Tuesday appointed as the new chief of National Security Guard, the elite commando force deployed for protecting VIPs and swift action in case of hostage crisis. The name of 58-year-old Medhekar, a 1975 batch IPS officer from Kerala cadre, was cleared by the Appointments’ Committee of Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Madhuri case: CBI’s letters rogatory to US

Allowing the plea of the Delhi police, Tis Hazari court chief metropolitan magistrate (CMM) Kaveri Baweja on Tuesday issued letters rogatory to the United States of America (USA) authorities to provide details of the emails exchanged between disgraced diplomat Madhuri Gupta and her handlers in Pakistan in the spying case in which she allegedly passed sensitive information to ISI agents.

IAF ceremony for Sachin rank Sept. 3

Eminent cricketer Sachin Tendulkar will don the uniform of an Air Force officer of the rank of group captain for the first time at a ceremony on Friday (September 3) that will be attended by IAF chief Air Chief Marshal P.V. Naik. It may be recalled that in June, 2010, President Pratibha Patil had conferred the honorary rank of group captain of the Indian Air Force (equivalent to the rank of Colonel in the Army) on Tendulkar.
