Meeting proof of govt "cover-up" plan: BJP

The BJP on Saturday said a law ministry official's reportedly facilitating a meeting between telecom minister A. Raja's lawyer, the solicitor general and a CBI official to chalk out a "unified strategy" on 2G Spectrum case was a "clear proof of the government's cover-up plan and "tantamount to contempt" of the Supreme Court.

"This meeting was to decide the unified strategy to be adopted before the Supreme Court. Such a meeting and an effort is unheard of and totally unethical and is a clear proof of government's cover-up plan, notwithstanding shifting of the convenor officer in the face of leakage about the meeting," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

According to reports, a law officer had called a meeting of Mr Raja's counsel Anita Shenoy, DIG (ACB) Palsania and the concerned investigating CBI official Vivek Priyadarshi in the presence of solicitor general of India Gopal Subramaniam.

"This is a clear proof of the cover-up of the scam and tantamount to contempt of the Supreme Court," Javadekar said.

The BJP demanded a response from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on the issue.

"The Prime Minister has a clean image but he cannot remain a mute spectator to these sins, crimes and scams for so long. The BJP also asks Sonia Gandhi and Rahul to explain their stand. They can choose not to speak on inconvenient issues but they should not forget that nobody can fool all the people all the time," Javadekar said.

The BJP also referred to an interview of former DoT secretary D.S. Mathur who said it is a "clinching evidence" of how 2G Spectrum was allotted without following "any principal of natural justice or equitable and transparent policy".

Javadekar alleged that from the first day of his taking charge, Mr Raja's main aim was to give 500 new licenses without bothering either for the availability of Spectrum or the need for following the required procedure.

"Though he resisted all along the public auction of the spectrum, it is clear now that it was in a way a private auction... His disregard for formulation of a policy to determine competent applicants also proves that the allotment was a premeditated conspiracy," the BJP leader said.
