Meira to visit Tripura today, Ansari to follow
Both the presiding officers of two Houses of Parliament are visiting Tripura within a span of one week that will begin with the arrival of Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Wednesday to attend a seminar to mark the 50th anniversary of the Tripura Assembly while the chairman of Rajya Sabha and vice-president Hamid Ansari will visit the state on September 25 to inaugurate the newly build state museum.
Formerly a princely state, Tripura joined the Republic of India on 15th October 1949, but got its assembly on 1st July 1963 due to indecision about its status in the new republic. Initially Tripura was accorded a Union Terri-tory status with a 30-member assembly. Subsequently it was elevated to a full-fledged state with a 60-member assembly as per the Northeast Area (reorganisation) Act-1971.
