Merger with Cong by end of month: Chiru
Telugu superstar and Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president Chiranjeevi on Wednesday said that the merger of his party with the congress would be completed by the end of this month.
Speaking to reporters after calling on Union health minister and general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mr Chiranjeevi said the merger would definitely take place by the end of this month. He said, “We haven’t finalised the date or place for the merger. But all that I can tell you is that the amalgamation would take place by this month-end, positively.” He also added that he had not decided whom all to invite.
To a question on why it was taking so long for the process to be completed, he said only the technical issues need to be sorted out on the question of merger as he had mentally joined the congress a long time back. He said, “I met Mr Azad to discuss the process of merger. Psychologically, I have already merged the PRP with the Congress. Only the technical issues need to be sorted out.”
On the issue of disqualifying two MLAs who joined the Jagan bandwagon, the matinee idol said that the issue would be taken up with the Speaker. He also said one has returned to the party fold. “Katasani Rammohan has come back. So we will make another representation to the speaker not to proceed against him. But against Sobha Nagireddy, we would prevail on the Speaker to initiate action against him,” he said.
When it was pointed out that Sobha Nagireddy was against the merger of the PRP with the Congress, the actor-turned-politician said that it was not he but the party that the took the decision on the merger.
“The decision to merge was taken by the party and not by me individually.”
