Chennai: Announcing the release of water from the Stanley reservoir for delta irrigation from August 12 here on Saturday, chief minister J. Jayalalithaa also vowed to get Tamil Nadu its due share of Cauvery water from Karnataka.

Although Mettur dam is usually opened for delta irrigation only after its storage touches 60 to 65tmcft, it was decided to open Stanley reservoir next month to allow cultivation of the long and mid-term samba crop over 12 lakh acres as it is expected to receive greater inflow owing to the brimming Karnataka reservoirs and fast intensifying monsoon, she explained in a statement.
