MHA to hold NIA review meeting today
The Union home ministry is holding a high-level review meeting with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday where the agency is expected to pitch for more manpower and resources.
“We don’t monitor investigations. We are only going to discuss pending proposals of NIA,” a senior MHA official said.
These factors are being cited by the NIA officials as reasons for slow progress in some cases including the Ajmer Sharif blast. The NIA has made significant progress recently in a number of blast cases, especially those involving Hindu extremist groups. The NIA has arrested Kamal Chouhan, a close aide of murdered RSS pracharak Sunil Joshi for his involvement in the Samjhauta blast case this month. All eyes are now on the NIA for a possible breakthrough soon in the Modasa blast case, also carried out by suspected Hindu extremist groups.
Home ministry officials said that only “administrative” issu-es will be discussed during the meeting with the NIA. Incidentally, the NIA is yet to move into a proper office even after three years of the creation of the premier investigation agency.
