MHA: Muivah can’t visit village
The Union home ministry has suggested airlifting of essential commodities to trouble-torn Manipur after it made it clear to NSC(IM) general secretary T. Muivah that he cannot visit his ancestral village in Manipur for the time being.
This decision was conveyed to him by home secretary G.K. Pillai who held extensive discussions with civil society groups in Nagaland and the state governments of Manipur and Nagaland.
The home ministry has told the Mainpur government that the government will airlift essential commodities to the state facing severe blockades enforced by various Naga tribal groups to protest the Manipur government’s decision not to allow Mr Muivah to visit his birthplace.
“The moment we get a request from the state government, we will airlift essential items, including medicines to the state,” a top government official said. The NSCN(IM) leader had been camping at Viswema for the past many days with the aim to reach Somdal. The government is hoping that Mr Muivah will soon give up his demand to visit his village after the government has made its position clear.
