MHA probes foreign cash for Cong, BJP
The Union ministry of home affairs has initiated a probe into allegations that both the BJP and the Con-gress received large donations, of about `5 crores each, from certain foreign firms.
The Election Commission had forwarded a complaint to the MHA to probe the alleged violation of provisions of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) by both political parties. Top MHA officials said the complaint is under examination and necessary steps will be taken to probe whether the donations received by the two political parties violate Section 29B of the Representation of the People Act, which states that “no political party shall be eligible to accept any contribution from any foreign source defined under clause (e) of Section 2 of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976”.
