MHA seeks nod from PMO to quiz Iqbal
The Union home ministry has sought a nod from the Prime Minister’s Office to the Enforcement Directorate’s request to record a statement of Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh in connection with his recommendation for issue of passport to Hasan Ali Khan. Mr Singh met home minister P. Chidambaram in North Block on Monday where he is believed to have expressed his willingness to face the ED sleuths .
“The L-G is willing to make a statement to the Enforcement Directorate. The home secretary is working out modalities which will be ready by today evening,” home minister P. Chidambaram told reporters here after Mr Singh met him.
This was Mr Singh’s second meeting with Mr Chidambaram in the last four days.
In its report to the PMO, the MHA has said that since Mr Singh has expressed his willingness to be questioned and the ED wants to record his statement , the PMO may take a final view and recommend the same to the President for her assent.
