MIM for all-party role in dialogue
The Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) is going to demand that all the representative parties in Parliament should be involved in the dialogue on Telangana.
The party plays a decisive role on Telangana in Hyderabad and its surroundings.
The MIM favoured continuation of the present status of Andhra Pradesh and recommended greater Telangana by including Rayalaseema also in the new state with Hyderabad as its capital. Sources told this newspaper that Mr Owaisi will raise the issue at the all-party meeting convened by Union home minister P. Chidambaram in New Delhi on January 6.
The party was of the view that wider consultations among representative parties was essential because it is mandatory for the T-Bill to be passed by Parliament.
“Regardless of the Assembly’s approval or disapproval when it comes to bifurcation, Parliament has to give the approval for Telangana,” a senior party leader said.
According to sources, the MIM leader broached the issue during his recent meeting with the chief minister. The CM invited both the friendly parties MIM and the Praja Rajyam in the run-up for the crucial January 6 meeting.
Sources said the Majlis leader also expressed serious concern over ruling party leaders sending wrong signals by openly expressing their divergent views. When the CM sought cooperation of all the political parties, Mr Owaisi shot back saying the Congress should first set its house in order.
