UP minister advises babus to ‘steal a bit’

Uttar Pradesh PWD minister and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav's uncle Shivpal Yadav on Friday in a surprise U-turn blamed the media for publishing his off the record talks.

Shivpal said the media had quoted him off the context on his alleged advice to bureaucrats to 'steel a little.'

But according to reports, Yadav had on Thursday told district officials in Etah that it did not matter if they 'steal a little but not loot as long as they work hard'.

However, in an effort to clarify his controversial advice to officials, Shivpal Yadav on Friday said he was dead against corruption and would not tolerate any corrupt person.

Earlier in July too, the PWD Minister had made a bizarre statement. He had asked the people to save the cows from slaughter and urged them to kill and eat Nilgai instead.
