Minister gaffe on Madani role in blasts
Karnataka home minister V.S. Acharya’s made a gaffe in announcing that People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Abdul Nasser Madani’s was involved in the KSCA serial blasts. The minister was meant to speak about Madani’s involvement in the 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts during the press briefing on Tuesday. Mr Acharya, who was
fumbling, was reportedly prompted by a journalist during the briefing. The home minister had clearly said that interrogation of Madani has revealed his role in the Chinnaswamy Stadium blasts on April 17. “During the investigation, Madani revealed that he was involved in the KSCA blasts. So, the police is likely to ask for en extension of his custody,” Dr Acharya had stated while giving an update on the interrogation of the PDP leader.
But the next day, Dr Acharya denied having made a statement connecting Madani to the stadium blasts. A senior city police officer had called up a few journalists after watching the television clippings. But there was no communication from the home department in this regard. When contacted on Wednesday, Dr Acharya said he never named Madani in the stadium blasts. “I was wrongly quoted in that context,” he said.
