Ministers to declare assets on January 15

The AICC general secretary in charge here on Tuesday defended the state government on corruption charges and announced that Assam ministers, including chief minister Tarun Gogoi, will declare their assets next month in the state Assembly.

Mr Singh who created fresh controversy by refusing to believe the newspaper reports told reporters, “All ministers, including the chief minister, will make public their assets on the floor of the Assam Assembly when the House meets on January 15.”
Mr Gogoi who on many occasion assured to make public the assets of the ministers was avoiding to make public assets of his colleagues, contending that the ministers were not obliged to declare the same.
Mr Singh, who addressed meetings of coordination committee of the government and party and the manifesto implementation committee besides presiding over a meeting of district and block presidents at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, however, admitted that facing the anti-incumbency of two consecutive terms in the power would be challenging for the party leaders. “Our 10 years in power has given the state peace and development; it has also tried to give justice. Conditions have vastly improved. For this I would like to thank Mr Gogoi,” he said asserting that Congress party will not tolerate the corruption.
Mr Singh cited the example of A. Raja (spectrum scam) and Ashok Chavan (Adarsh housing scam), who were asked to resign for their alleged involvement in corruption.
He however reprimanded BJP asking — has it taken action against Bangaru Laxman, Reddy brothers, B.S. Yeddyurappa?
In reference to JPC demand in 2G scam, Mr Singh said that CBI has already been probing the scam. “We proposed them to get it probed by PAC headed by veteran BJP leader like Murli Manohar Joshi but they are insisting for a JPC which will be headed by any Congress MP,” he said while claiming that BJP does not have faith in their own leaders.
Why are they against probe by the public accounts committee, which is headed by Murli Manohar Joshi, their leader?” he asked.
