UP minister's kin arrested for gang rape
Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad police on Saturday arrested the kin of an Uttar Pradesh minister after he was found involved in the gang rape of a married woman, according to an official.
Sunil Tyagi was arrested along with one of his accomplices, said the police. Two others are also involved in the case.
The incident occurred on January 23 in a moving car on the highway to Meerut in Sihani Gate area of Ghaziabad.
The police said the accused Sunil Tyagi, the son of Mahendra Tyagi, a resident of Bhagwanganj Mandi in Modinagar, has confessed to the crime. According to police, Sunil Tyagi is the nephew of a minister in the Mayawati government, but the minister's name was not revealed.
Tyagi, along with three of his friends - Aslam from Farooque Nagar, and Bobby and Sanjay Chaudhary from Kidwai Nagar Modinagar - abducted the woman at 3.30 p.m. on January 23 and gang raped her at gun point in a moving Wagon-R car on the Meerut road, Circle Officer Doctor R.K. Singh said.
The accused remained underground for four days but the police nabbed Sunil Tyagi and Bobby on Saturday, he said.
According to the police report, the woman was trapped by the gang with a job offer. Laxmi, a common friend, was the mediator in the job offer.
The woman was raped for three hours and left on Meerut road after being told not to reveal the incident. But she told her husband and other family members about what happened.
"The car has been seized and we are trying to arrest the other accused," the officer said.
