Minor girl ‘gangraped’ for 12 days in Patna
A day after the alleged gangrape of a minor girl from Uttar Pradesh in Patna came to light, the city police found themselves grappling with another alleged gangrape of a local minor girl who went through sexual trauma for 12 days.
The 16-year-old victim, Soumya (changed name), was first abducted by four men on September 18 evening from near her home and brought to a house in the Bihar capital’s Jogipur area where she was repeatedly gangraped by them for 12 days till police rescued her on Saturday. None of the four accused could be arrested till late on Sunday evening despite the police claiming to be raiding different locations.
When the hapless girl, daughter of daily-wage labourers, was collecting water from a hand-pump near her home at Jaganpura locality, the four accused — Shetty, Chandan, Rajiv and one yet to be identified — came and tried to molest her. When she protested, they forced a rag into her mouth and blindfolded her before forcibly carrying her in an auto-rickshaw to Shetty’s house, which police raided to rescue her.
None of the accused was present during that raid, said the police.
In her statement before a local court, Soumya said the four accused also beat her up during these 12 days when she protested their sexual assaults. She is currently undergoing medical treatment.
A police official said a medical examination would be conducted on her on Monday to ascertain gangrape.
While the delay of 12 days in the police taking action after Soumya’s mother reported her abduction has raised questions, the cops claimed the matter appeared to be related to a love affair.
