Minor girl gangraped in south kolkata
A minor girl was allegedly gangraped in south Kolkata. The incident took place at around 3 am when the victim and her friend had gone to take bath in a local pond in Panchshayar area of Purba Jadavpur on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. Seeing the girls alone, they were accosted by five youth. The other girl managed to flee but the victim was forcibly taken to an under construction building where she was brutally raped by them. The police has arrested all the accused. The girl’s medical test confirmed rape.
Based on the girl’s account, the victim’s family had lodged an FIR in Purba Jadavpur Police Station at around 11 am on Monday. The officers charged the accused under IPC 376(D) intially arrested Surajit Das, 18 and Sujoy Dakua, 16. Surajit was sent to police custody till March 22 and Sujoy was sent to a juvenile home. His age will ascertained. Later, the police arrested Shantu Haldar, 19, and prime accused Rajesh Haldar, 26 and Pritam Naskar, 21. The will be produced in the court on Tuesday.
CPI(M) leader Kanti Ganguly rushed to the spot and asked the officers of Purba Jadavpur police station to arrest the culprits irrespective of their political affiliation. The incident occurred two days after former Supreme Court judge and West Bengal Human Rights Commission chairman, Asok Kumar Ganguly said that crimes against women in the state was no less than those in Delhi.
