Missing coal files: PSUs approached
The coal ministry, racing against time set by the Supreme Court for tracing the missing documents pertaining to the Coalgate scam, has begun approaching the concerned PSUs to locate the untraceable files sought by the CBI in connection with the scam.
The coal ministry recently informed the CBI that it has requested the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC), a government-owned lignite mining and power generating company, to provide documents related to the allocation of Lunsara lignite block in Rajasthan.
Slamming the Centre for not providing documents even after repeated reminders by the CBI, the SC on August 29 had asked the CBI to give the list of documents, files and information, sought by it, within five days to the Coal Ministry which, in turn, has been directed to furnish them within two weeks thereafter.
“The agency has also sought from the coal ministry application form submitted by a private company for the allocation of Indawar Lignite block in Rajasthan. Allocation papers related to this block are also not available with the coal ministry. For this also the ministry has requested the NLC to provide the documents sought by the CBI at the earliest,” sources said.
