‘Mock tests’ a thing of the past

If you think “mock tests” or “dummy tests” designed by private coaching institutes can help you attain better in the upcoming post-graduate medical exam, here is a word of caution. Sources have revealed that the multi-layer security system makes it unlikely for anyone to know the format of the new online test. In fact, no two question papers will be alike.
Sources informed that the question paper for the new test system is generated from a highly secured server. The system will generate two different question papers everyday, making it impossible for anybody to get an idea for the proposed test.
“The question paper is going to be from the MBBS curriculum designed by Medical Council of India (MCI). The question paper and the format is not known to anybody, therefore candidates getting lured by the agencies asking them for the dummy test are just wasting their time,” a senior official said.
Even as the new system gives an advantage of generating a new question paper for each candidate, to maintain the confidence of the candidates, the National Board of Examination (NBE) decided and got the programme designed in such a way that everyday only two new set of question papers will be generated and no question paper will have a similarity in the whole period of 14 days.
The first ever All India “Online test” for Post Graduate medical students starts from November 23, 2012, offering flexibility for aspirants to choose any date between November 23 to December 6, 2012. After following paper-pencil format for years, this will be the first time that an online test will be conducted for Post Graduate (PG) medical students.
Approximately 60,000 students appear every year for various PG medical examinations. The AIIMS conduct PG entrance for 50 per cent of government seats-which comes to around 4,000 seats. However, the new exam system is conducted for all the seats, resulting in pool of seats growing manifold.
For the first time, even percentile based selection system will be used for the common test too.
