MoD receives report on illegal land transfer
The ministry of defence (MoD) on Wednesday said it had received a report from the Army’s Pune-based Southern Command on alleged illegal transfer of land to a pharmaceutical company at Kandivili, Mumbai, and added the report is “under examination” even as Army sources indicated that a CBI inquiry could be ordered.
The alleged irregularity involving defence land at Kandivili had been reported last year in the wake of the Adarsh scam in Mumbai and the Army had then ordered an enquiry. The Southern Command report purportedly indicated alleged involvement of former Army chief Gen. (retd.) Deepak Kapoor and former minister of state for defence production Rao Inderjit Singh in the Kandivili land case even though both Gen. Kapoor and Mr. Singh have denied any role in the matter.
Gen. Kapoor is already under the scanner in the Adarsh scam but had earlier denied any role in that matter as well. Gen. Kapoor had earlier been allotted a flat in the Adarsh Housing Society.
