Modi govt files FIR against cop in a 26-year-old case
In what is being dubbed as vendetta action, the Narendra Modi government here on Tuesday, filed an FIR in a 26-year-old case of police encounter against IPS officer Kuldeep Sharma, accusing him of murders, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence. With the FIR already lodged, Mr Sharma is likely to be arrested by the state police any time. Sources said, Mr Sharma is being targeted because he is reportedly helping the CBI in Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.
The case goes back to 1984, when Mr Sharma was SP of Kutch district, which was the ideal location for smuggling as it is on the coast, shares border with Pakistan and has huge uninhabited desert. As per the details, Umar Walimamad and Fakir Mamad, both were smugglers and used to operate in Gujarat waters when smuggling was at its peak, were killed in a gunbattle on May 10, 1984 in Kutch while their two relatives Juma Walimamad and his son Ibrahim Walimamad went missing and subsequently presumed as murdered. Their jeep was found from Ahmedabad. Subsequently, one more member of the same group was allegedly murdered by the police.
In a press release, the state police said that investigation has been launched by the CID in the case.
According to sources, this is an attempt to fix Mr Sharma because he is said to be helping the CBI in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case in which former junior home minister and key aide of Mr Modi, Amit Shah is one of the accused and is now in jail after CBI arrested him.
