Modi unlikely at BJP meet today
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, along with other parliamentary board members of the BJP, including party chief Rajnath Singh, L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, M.M. Joshi, attended the key meet held on Sunday.
Mr Modi, who is also the BJP’s election campaign committee chief, is unlikely to attend the meeting on Monday.
Mr Advani, who along with Ms Swaraj and Dr Joshi, are against announcing the PM candidate at this juncture, left the meeting for few hours to attend a scheduled function.
The RSS chief had met Mr Advani and Ms Swaraj recently in a bid to reach a consensus on Mr Modi’s name.
Among the poll strategies that were discussed on Sunday included coordination, outreach programmes for minorities, SC, OBCs, tribals, women and the youth.
The VHP’s 84-kosi yatra and its impact and recent incidents of communal riots in Uttar Pradesh also came up for discussion. The RSS wants the BJP and Sangh affiliates to concentrate in UP, Bihar and southern states.
The RSS was represented by its general secretary Bhaiyya Joshi and joint general secretaries Suresh Soni and Dattatreya Hosbole while the VHP’s Praveen Togadia was also present.
