Modi woos TDP, attacks UPA handling of T-issue
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, head of the BJP campaign committee for the 2014 general election, on Sunday mounted a scathing attack on the Congress-led UPA government for its failures on multiple counts, and urged people to get rid of the “corrupt, weak, incompetent and politicking” government.
Addressing a mammoth rally here, Mr Modi blamed the Centre for its failure to check repeated killings of Indian soldiers on the LoC, Chinese incursions, trouble in Kashmir, the killings of two Kerala fishermen by Italian marines, infiltration across the Bangladesh border and for creating a wedge between the people of Telangana and Seemandhra by “mishandling” the Telangana bifurcation issue.
“We are in favour of Telangana. But we can’t do injustice to Seemandhra. They are now talking of Hyderabad as a joint capital. If they started the process in 2004, both regions could have capitals by now,” he said.
Mr Modi also tried to woo the Telugu Desam, a former BJP ally, saying its chief N. Chandrababu Naidu had helped form a non-Congress government at the Centre. “The best tribute to (TDP founder) NTR will be to free the country from Congress misrule,” he said. He also warmly praised AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa for her progressive policies.
