MoEF notice to Adarsh

The environment ministry on Friday issued show cause notice to Adarsh Housing Society in Mumbai for violating green norms. The ministry sought a reply within two weeks to the notice which asks why the 31-storey “illegal” building should not be demolished.

Environment minister Jairam Ramesh explained his ministry was not going into the ownership issue of the land and was only concerned with whether or not CRZ norms were followed. He gave the society one more week to meet ministry officials. Noting that the society did not have any permission to build from either the ministry or the relevant state government departments, Mr Ramesh said there were other legal options available to the ministry.
