Moily calls CBI chief
Union law and justice minister M. Veerappa Moily on Friday called CBI director A.P Singh and discussed with him the possibility of reinvestigation into the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case. Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar also stated that she was “worried” about the recent developments in the case and sought justice for the victim.
The law minister’s move comes two days after the CBI filed a closure report in a Ghaziabad court in the case on the ground that sufficient evidence was not available to pursue the probe. “It is not a question of reopening, but whether any thing further can be done in terms of investigation of the case,” Dr Moily said.
He said the question was whether it was a “fit case” of closure or whether “further progress” can be made in the matter. “This is what I have discussed with the CBI director,” Dr Moily added.
“We discussed the legal parameters and had a thorough discussion. We discussed various pros and cons of the case. I have left it to the CBI to take its own judgment. Let us see how we go forward,” he said.
Dr Moily defended the CBI investigation into the matter and said that nobody can question the way the agency probed it.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar sought justice for the victim in the high-profile case. “This is a important issue. We are worried about it that a child was murdered and why she is not getting justice. We should think seriously,” Ms Kumar said.
