Moily discusses Aarushi case with CBI boss
In the wake of strong feelings expressed over seeking closure of the Aarushi murder case, Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily today called on CBI Director A.P. Singh and discussed with him the possibility of reinvestigating the case.
Moily's move comes two days after CBI filed a closure report in a Ghaziabad court in the case on the ground there was no available evidence at the crime scene to pursue the probe, which invited a lot of media criticism.
"It is not a question of reopening, but whether any thing further can be done in terms of investigation of the case," Moily told reporters here after the meeting with the CBI Director.
He said the question was whether it was a 'fit case' of closure or whether 'further progress' can be made in the matter.
"This is what I have discussed with him," he said about the case that related to murder of student Aarushi, who was found murdered in her house in May, 2008.
Asked about the legal options now before the CBI in the light of its filing of the closure report he said, "I don't want to put a legal option. It is with CBI. We discussed legal parameters and had a thorough discussion."
Moily said while he discussed the various 'pros and cons' of the case with Singh and has left it to the CBI 'to take its own judgement...let us see how we go forward'.
Moily defended the CBI investigation into the matter and said that nobody can question the way the agency probed it.
"They have done a thorough job with utmost sincerity," he said.
