Molested teen in Bengal ends life

A teenaged girl committed suicide in humiliation following her alleged molestation by her neighbour in Naihati of North 24 Parganas. The incident took place at Palbagan on Tuesday evening when the 17-year-old girl was at home with her seven-year-old brother. A local youth Goutam Paswan, 28, along with two others came and molested her on the road.
The incident also shocked the girl’s neighbours who were on the road. The culprit then physically abused and dragging her inside. Her brother, who was watching TV, was also thrashed. The group of three then disappeared.
When the girl’s family returned home, they found her hanging from the ceiling, with a dupatta tied around her neck.
The victim’s mother alleged, “When the youth entered our house, two were standing outside. My daughter was making breads then.”
According to a local resident, Goutam wanted to marry her and was forcing her for a long time. But the girl refused his proposal thinking of her family’s dignity. Since then, Goutam was after her. Social activist Bolan Gangopadhyay questioned the role of the police for its inaction.
She also claimed that the cops inaction was only encouraging the miscreants. On Wednesday, the family of the deceased lodged a complaint with the Naihati police station against Goutam alleging molestation and physical abuse leading her to death. But Goutam is absconding. So are his aides. The body was sent for post-mortem.
Deputy commissioner of police (detective department) of the Barrackpore police commissionerate Debashish Bej, however, said, “There was an affair between the accused and the victim. The accused frequented her house in the last couple of days. We have started a case on abatement to suicide charge under Section 306 of the IPC against Goutam.”
Meanwhile, a housewife was allegedly molested at the Belghoria station on Tuesday night when she was waiting to catch a train to return home at Agarpara with her daughter.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
