Monetary aid for tourism themes
The Union tourism ministry has decided to extend financial assistance to the states and the Union Territories (UTs) for international quality production of promotional materials that could be used in domestic and international markets to showcase various tourism-related themes.
This will be done under the public-private partnership mode. As per new guidelines, the states in the Northeastern region, including Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir, besides Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh, will be given 50 per cent of the total project cost. For other states and UTs, the central share would be 34 per cent. While for the states, the cap would be Rs 25 lakh (or 34 per cent), which ever is less, for the UTs, it will be Rs 15 lakh (or 34 per cent), which ever is less.
The remaining 66 per cent will have to be borne by the states and the private stakeholders. The minimum share of both the entities would have to be at least 25 per cent. Further, the ministry has also relaxed the cap on number of fairs that could be held by states or UTs in one financial year, for which Central assistance will be extended. Earlier, the cap was three festivals or fairs, which has now been increased to six per year. Two extra fairs may be allowed if the states/UTs are able to justify their need. These fairs will have to be based on tourism themes.
