Money was main motive, 4 held
The police on Wednesday solved the murder of photographer and producer Navraj Kwatra with the arrest of his female assistant, her boyfriend, her brother and a fourth accomplice. The police has confirmed that money was the sole motive behind the murder. Kwatra, the son of renowned author and poet Amrita Pritam, was found bound, gagged and choked to death in his studio in Borivali on September 14, and two “courier boys” were prime suspects. As part of its inquiries, the police was questioning all acquaintances and business associates, which is when the breakthrough came. “Savita Gupta, who used to assist Kwatra and has appeared as an extra on some television shows, broke down and confessed to have taken part in the crime. She also revealed the identities of the main accused: Her boyfriend Vinay alias Vipul Bose (24), his friend Gaurang Khawle (21) and Savita’s 17-year-old brother. They were all subsequently picked up from their respective residences,” said Sunil Paraskar, additional commissioner of police, North region.
The accused, during interrogation, have said that Vinay, who used to work as a cook in a hotel, needed money urgently, and told Savita about it. She suggested that he approach Kwatra for a loan, and offered to introduce him.
