Monsoon 1% over what was forecast

India’s seasonal monsoon was on Thursday set to exceed the forecast with the country receiving one per cent more rains than expected amid indications of a much-delayed retreat in the clouds that bring showers.

As per the weather office figures, the annual rains this season were one per cent more than forecast earlier with good rains expected this month. A top weather official said it could rain in the first week of October in the North-west. —PTI
