Monsoon advances, likely to hit Delhi within 2 days
Spelling good news for the Indian economy, the monsoon is likely to cover all parts of the country in the next three or four days. “Conditions are favourable for further advance of the monsoon into remaining parts of the country in 3-4 days,” the India Meteorological Department said Sunday.
It will reach Delhi in the next two days, the IMD said. The national capital received good pre-monsoon showers in the past 24 hours, but high humidity levels offered little relief, though the maximum dipped to 33 degrees Celsius. “The southwest monsoon has revived and is expected to hit Delhi by July 5 or 6,” said IMD director B.P. Yadav.
The IMD also cautioned that the monsoon’s advance over parts of Uttar Pradesh may be feeble. It has advanced into remaining parts of Gujarat, South Rajasthan and some parts of Madhya Pradesh. The rains are important for kharif crop sowing, which has picked up across the country.
