Monsoon havoc: State to seek more aid from centre
Kochi: The state government is to seek additional support from the Centre in the wake of the damage caused by monsoon, according to chief secretary Bharat Bhushan.
After a review meeting here on Sunday, he said that crop loss was presently estimated to be Rs 40 crore and the exact figures would be known in a week.
Video clippings were being collected from each district and these would be included in the memorandum chief minister Oommen Chandy would present to the Centre in New Delhi soon. The submission of the clippings would make things clearer.
Already, Rs 2,000 was being given to families of those affected by the monsoon, besides free ration. The state would take up with the Centre to allot more food grains to the state, he said, adding that funds would not stand in the way for relief operations.
The chief secretary held a meeting with district collector Sheikh Pareeth and officials of various departments .
