Montek, Brajesh, Premji, Kapila to get Padmas
Former national security adviser Brajesh Mishra, Planning Commis-sion deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and noted metallurgist P. Rama Rao were amongst the 13 people awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award. The awards were announced Tuesday. The others are Kapila Vatsyayan, Homai
Vyarawalla, A. Nageswara Rao, Parasaram Kesava Iyengar, Dr A.R. Kidwai, Vijay Kelkar, O.N.V. Kurup, Sitakant Mahapatra and the late L.C. Jain. Wipro chairman Azim Pre-mji led the list of awardees being awarded the Padma Vibhushan from representatives of trade and industry.
There was no Bharat Ratna for the third year running. The last person to get it was Bhimsen Joshi (2008) who passed away Monday.
The President approved 128 awards, including one double case (counted as one), and 12 in the category of foreigners/NRIs/PIOs and posthumous. These comprise 13 Padma Vibhu-shans, 31 Padma Bhushans and 84 Padma Shris. There are 31 women in the list.
