More flights between India, Iran
India and Iran have agreed to increase the number of flights per week. The air services agreement was one of six pacts to be signed on Friday towards the end of the two-day India-Iran joint commission meeting, held here after a gap of 16 months.
Both sides also concluded a pact on the transfer of sentenced persons, and signed four memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, science and technology, cooperation in small scale industry between National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) and Iranian Small Industries and Industrial Parks Organisation (ISIPO), and on cooperation between Central Pulp and Paper Research Institute of India (CPPRI) and Gorgan University of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources (GUASNR).
The air services agreement enhanced the number of flights between the two nations from 23 to 31 every week. It also allowed their airlines to operate to two additional destinations, to be mutually decided upon later. External affairs minister S.M. Krishna co-chaired the meeting with the Iranian minister for economic affairs and finance.
The Indian side said the joint commission meeting provided an opportunity to review bilateral economic and cultural cooperation.
