MoS attacks Mamata job-for-land policy
Minister of state for railways Adhir Chowdhury on Monday put former railway minister Mamata Banerjee in the dock for her policy decision to offer railway jobs to every family which gave land for railway projects.
He said that because of her stand a large number of railway projects had been stalled because it was not possible for the railways to provide jobs to so many people.
“If the railway starts giving employment for land then only Eastern Railway will have to dole out nearly two lakh job. One and a half lakh to two lakh jobs will have to be given in just one zone and there are 17 railway zones in the country. If the railway starts giving jobs for land then it will cease to exist,” he added.
He said he would appr-oach the PM and Plann-ing Commission chairman and urge them to review the policy decision taken by Ms Banerjee.
He acknowledged that in some cases where it became unavoidable then job could be offered to any landloser.
